Under the direction of the Collections Supervisor, this position is responsible for various credit and collection functions including: calling students who have past due accounts to obtain payment arrangements, e-mailing and/or sending letters to arrange payment, managing accounts, meeting collection goals, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. 

Responsibilities

  • Contacts students who have past due accounts via telephone to arrange payment and provides information to the student/parent regarding their account.
  • Verifies the reason for delinquent payment with the student, discusses solutions, and makes arrangements for payment, which includes a specific date and dollar amount.
  • Strives to reduce the amount of loan loss by arranging temporary payment arrangements with students. 
  • Ensures that dollars collected and charged off goals are met each month and strives to exceed this goal.
  • Ensures that the proper number of phone calls are made per day to meet account management goals and strives to exceed these goals. 
  • Ensures that the proper number of Saturday calls and the prime time ratio/percentage goals are met each month and strives to exceed these goals.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and provides excellent customer service.
  • Responds to student questions and/or disputes regarding their accounts.
  • Handles difficult students/parents in a professional manner and refers issues to the Unit Head when necessary.
  • Possesses knowledge of applicable collection, credit and finance laws pertaining to the education industry.
  • Participates in team meetings and special projects as assigned by the Unit Head/Collections Manager.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Unit Head/Collections Manager.
  • Control Related Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with all DeVry collections policies and procedures and recommends ideas and changes to procedures to the Unit Head of Collections.
  • Attends training and or seminars as directed by the Unit Head / Collections Manager in order to enhance collecting, communication and time management skills.
  • Ensures all credit and collection procedures and day to day transactions adhere to SOX compliant procedures. 
  • Adheres to internal control / compliance policy procedures and has high consciousness / awareness about the Code of Ethics.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with some college preferred. 
  • One to two years experience in Collector position. 
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management and customer service skills. 
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and internet applications. 
  • Must be a team player who is self-motivated and able to handle a large volume of work.
