    DeVry University in Addison seeks to welcome new Part Time Visiting Professors of Network and Communications Management to our rapidly expanding degree programs to instruct undergraduate courses for the Cisco track of our Networking program. We are interested in developing long-term relationships with superior faculty who have high professional standards, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a commitment to providing the finest practitioner-focused education. 


    In the CISCO track, DeVry students prepare for Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) Certifications. The typical course of instruction may include:


    Cisco Networking Academy – Introduction to Networking with Lab (NETW203)

    This course introduces the underlying technology of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and the Internet. Topics include networking media, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP), an overview of routing and switching, and small network configuration and troubleshooting. Students prepare and test cabling and become familiar with protocol analyzers. This course is based on Cisco Networking Academy content.


    Cisco Networking Academy – Introduction to Routing with Lab (NETW205)

    This course introduces router configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting; routing protocols; and use of access control lists (ACLs) as a traffic management tool. Students gain command-line-interface (CLI) knowledge and configure local and wide area networks with routers. In addition, students apply the transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) suite of commands and ACLs to real networks under troubleshooting and traffic management scenarios. This course is based on Cisco Networking Academy content.


    Cisco Networking Academy – Introduction to Switching with Lab (NETW207)

    This course presents advanced Internet protocol (IP) addressing techniques, intermediate routing protocols, switch configuration and maintenance, virtual local area networks (VLANs) and related protocols, and network design strategies. Students expand their skills in router and switch configuration and maintenance by building and troubleshooting various networks. This course is based on Cisco Networking Academy content.


    Cisco Networking Academy – Introduction to WAN Technologies with Lab (NETW209)

    This course addresses wide area network (WAN) design using various technologies; WAN protocols configuration and troubleshooting; and network management. In the lab, students expand their skills in router and switch configuration and maintenance by building and troubleshooting various networks, as well as design, configure and troubleshoot various WAN topologies. Use of the following protocols and technologies is expanded or introduced: network address translation and port address translation, dynamic host configuration protocol, point-to-point protocol authentication, integrated services digital network, dial-on-demand routing and frame relay. This course is based on Cisco Networking Academy content.


    In this role, you will:

    • Become part of a dynamic team of educational professionals, teaching undergraduate students in a variety of degree programs with a blended-learning format (campus/online)

    • Establish an environment conducive to student engagement by effectively planning and preparing for classes, responding quickly to student requests for assistance and ensuring that students enjoy a powerful learning experience

    • Promote student success by demonstrating a flexible style and exhibit a passion for teaching by devoting time and energy to develop scholarly excellence
    • Engage with a diverse student body comprised of a variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and academic preparation using a variety of platforms and technology
    • Foster a positive learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing academic and attendance policies


    You are encouraged to explore this opportunity if you meet the following criteria:

    • A Master's or PhD degree in Network & Communications Management, Computer Science or closely related field with 18+ earned graduate credit hours directly in the field of instruction
    • CISCO Certification is required
    • Prior higher education teaching experience is preferred
    • Solid subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills
    • Excellent motivational and instructional skills to be effective in a non-traditional environment
    • Must be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups
