The Sr. Business System Analyst (Sr. BSA) is responsible for reporting analytics and business process support of multiple systems utilized by functional business groups in higher education supported by the department.  The Sr. BSA is expected to be an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in reporting and analytics, demonstrate strong business and systems knowledge of multiple systems and processes in higher education and possess strong communication and project manage skills to consult and lead with business and technical leaders across the organization.  


A successful candidate for this advanced position should have experience supporting business processes and information systems and good knowledge using advanced reporting tools to program, code and develop advanced reporting needs for business groups.  In addition, the candidate should have the ability to project manage and apply process improvements techniques across business and system processes in order to provide analysis to drive business decisions, improve systems processes and optimize business efficiencies.


As this position supports a wide range of business, systems and process functions, the successful candidate will lead and manage responsibilities as a data and reporting analyst and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least two of the following areas: Customer Relationship Management, Workforce Management, call center telephony systems and other systems as defined by business use.  Typical responsibilities includes.

  • Codes and develops custom reports using advanced data analytic tools such as Cognos Analytics, Microsoft Power BI and various reporting and query tools from transactional systems
  • Applies data analysis and basic statistical analysis to develop business intelligence to drive business decisions from objective data to meet strategic goals and objectives
  • Understands and masters business and system processes (CRM, SIS, SFDC, Student Finance, Workforce Management, and telephony/Omni-channel systems) used by the organization across multiple business groups in order to identify potential opportunities and risks
  • Works and communicates with business and technical leaders at all levels to identify needs, determine and recommend system and analytic solutions, document data requirements and system processes to support and optimize business performance
  • Serve as Project Manager with technical and business colleagues to lead and successfully implement new system initiatives and drive process and system improvements for various system enhancements
  • Executes and/or leads teams to manage process requests, oversee deliverables and meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for each of the systems assigned
  • Mentors and develops reporting, system and process skills in other colleagues
  • Documents and tracks activities associated to different academic partners


Completes other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters degree preferred
  • Strong MS Office skills required, especially with MS Excel, MS Access and Visio are a plus
  • 5+ years of customer service experience preferred working in at least one or more of the following higher education areas: Admissions, Registrar Services, Student Finance or Academic Advising
  • 5+ years of experience preferred working with CRM, Telephony, Workforce Management, SIS systems processes and/or call center technologies or similar applications
  • Experience with technical systems and environments, interested in developing technical skills
  • Experience with project and/or change management a plus
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work independently, problem solve and drive to solutions
  • Ability to present and simplify complex information so that colleagues at all levels can understand
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with coding and basic report development skills for advanced and experience using advanced analytical tools such as Cognos, MS Power BI, Tableau or Crystal Reports, Workforce Management Reports
  • PMP and/or Six Sigma certifications and Change Management background are a plus
  • Good written and oral communication problem solving skill
